cyclist at the Olympic games
This
is how the drama unfolded when Burnham-On-Sea BMX cyclist Liam
Phillips took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing...

4.50am:
Liam on the starting blocks during the quarter finals

4.52am:
A blur of action as the riders speed through the air. Liam
finishes the first quarter final race in 37.773 seconds in fifth
spot.

5.12am:
Liam lines up for the second quarter final race and finishes
in sixth spot in a time of 41.219 seconds.

5.13am:
Liam's now in fifth place overall after finishing fifth in
the first quarter final race and sixth in the second race. But
only the first four riders from each phase will go through to
the semi-finals...

5.41am:
Liam looks determined as the BBC cameras pan along the start line
for the final race...

5.41am:
Liam lines up for the third quarter final... can he get up
to fourth place and go through to tomorrow's semi-finals?

5.42am:
There's drama as Liam is hampered during a collision of cyclists.
He finishes the race seventh in a time of 1 minute, 27 seconds.
Sadly,
that means brave Liam's Olympic dream is now over until London
2012.
