Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackle small blaze at Ritz Social Club
A
Burnham-On-Sea town centre club was evacuated on Sunday evening
(August 17th) after a small fire broke out.
Two
Burnham fire crews were sent to the Ritz Social Club in Victoria
Street, as pictured here, after an electrical fault in a extractor
fan unit caused a kitchen blaze.
Fire
crews used a CO2 extinguisher to tackle the fire at 4.40pm, along
with smoke extraction equipment to ventilate the premises.
Club
spokeswoman Helen Whaley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The club
was fully evacuated of all customers while the crews dealt with
the incident."
"Fortunately,
the damage was limited to the extractor fan unit only, although
there was a lot of smoke. It could have been a lot worse."
A
fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the scene: "The
fire was started due to an electrical fault and was extinguished
using one CO2 extinguisher. Damage was limited to 5% direct fire
and heat to the controller."
"Smoke
detectors were fitted but did not activate, and the occupiers
are therefore arranging for an electrican to attend to check the
alarm system."
